Ontario Swine Improvement (OSI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing swine improvement and genetic products, programs, information and expertise. Our goal is to help both purebred breeders and commercial swine producers achieve competitive advantages and excellence in the global market place through genetic improvement and superior marketing.
OSI has a strong working relationship with its national partner, the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement (CCSI) . The Ontario Swine Improvement Program (OSIP) follows the national testing guidelines and meets technical standards established by CCSI.
AccreditationThe Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement (CCSI) is the national centre for swine improvement evaluations. There are 4 regional centres that are responsible for maintaining the program in various regions across Canada. Ontario Swine Improvement (OSI) is the regional centre involved with the national evaluation and accreditation programs.
CCSI’s national testing program for swine involves the yearly accreditation of level 2 (national) and level 1 (provincial) ultrasound technicians.
Level 2 technicians are required to scan pigs on a quarterly basis and have those animals entered into the CCSI evaluation database. The technicians are required to meet the appropriate scanning results as compared to the national standards officer.
Level 2 technicians, as approved by CCSI; are required to certify all level 1 technicians in their region who would like to send data to the CCSI database.
